The common diagnoses/types of patients include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, R/O, chole, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and AKI. There is one charge RN on the floor with assignments. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are present on the unit. RNs are required to titrate drips, specifically heparin based on APTT results. No vent equipment is used; intermittent BIPAP is utilized. Telemetry is available on this unit and is monitored remotely by technicians. Shifts are transitioning to a new scheduling system. Weekends and holidays are scheduled as needed, typically one-half of the total weekends. There is no standby or call requirement. Floating may be required based on census, with external travelers being the first to float. Scrub color is navy blue. The cancellation policy allows for two shifts per 13-week contract. The charting system in use is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position. This is an acute care setting.
