Description:
Unit has 30 beds.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6/7, with flexibility to go up to 1:7.
RNs must be comfortable with this ratio.
Patient populations include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, R/O, cholecystectomy, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and AKI.
There is one charge RN on the floor with assignments.
Patient care technicians are available on the unit.
RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on APTT results.
No ventilators are used, but intermittent BIPAP is available.
Telemetry is monitored remotely by technicians.
Scheduling is done through a specific system.
Weekend and holiday shifts are scheduled as needed, typically covering half of the total weekends.
There is no standby or call requirement.
Floating may occur based on census, with external travelers being the first to float.
Scrub color is navy blue.
Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract.
The charting system utilized is EPIC.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required.
This is an acute care setting.
