Description:
This position is for a Medical Surgical unit with a capacity of 30 beds.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6/7.
The nurse must be comfortable with a potential increase in the ratio to 1:7.
Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, R/O, cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and AKI.
One charge nurse will be on the floor, and there will be patient care technicians available for support.
RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on APTT results.
There is no use of ventilators; however, intermittent BIPAP is utilized.
Telemetry monitoring is present and is conducted remotely by monitor techs.
Weekends and holidays are scheduled as needed, typically requiring coverage for half of the total weekends.
There is no standby or call requirement for this position.
Floating may be required based on census needs, with external travelers being the first to float.
Uniform color is navy blue.
Charting is done using the EPIC system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
This is an acute care setting.
