Description:
This position is in a 30-bed medical surgical unit.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6/7, which may go up to 1:7.
The registered nurse must be comfortable with this ratio.
There is one charge RN on the floor with an assignment.
Patient care technicians are available on the unit to assist as needed.
Registered nurses are required to titrate drips, specifically heparin based on APTT results.
The unit does not have ventilators but does utilize intermittent BiPAP.
Telemetry is available and monitored remotely by technician staff.
Shifts are being transitioned to a scheduling system.
Registered nurses are typically scheduled for half of the total weekends and holidays as needed.
There is no standby or on-call requirement for this position.
Floating may be required based on patient census, with external travelers being the first to float.
Uniform color is navy blue.
The charting system used is EPIC.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required for this position.
This is an acute care setting.
