Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: 1 year of nursing experience is required. Candidates who are first-time travelers will be accepted. Description: The position requires working with a diverse patient population experiencing various medical conditions. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, urinary tract infections, altered mental status, gastrointestinal bleeds, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness. The nurse-to-patient ratio on day shift is 1:5-7 and 1:6-8 on night shift. Nurses will be responsible for titrating certain IV drips, with exceptions for cardiac drip titration. Common titratable drips include heparin, bumetanide, and furosemide. There will be a charge nurse on each shift, managing patient assignments. The average nurse aid to patient ratio is 1:10-12. Job duties include taking vital signs, administering blood glucose monitoring, conducting EKGs, applying heart monitors, assisting with bathing, feeding, toileting, and patient positioning. Registered nurses will generally monitor respiratory equipment, with respiratory therapists performing more advanced interventions. There is a monitor tech available who will oversee telemetry readings; nurses are not required to interpret telemetry strips. The scheduling does not offer self-scheduling or block scheduling. Nurses are expected to be flexible in picking up shifts as needed. Every other weekend and holiday rotation are required. Nurses may be floated to other medical surgical or intermediate care units for lower acuity patients. Dress code requires navy blue scrubs for registered nurses. There will be one day of unit-specific orientation followed by one day with a preceptor. Charting will be done using an electronic health record system. Cancellation policies allow for a limited number of canceled shifts per assignment duration.
