The unit serves patients from culturally diverse backgrounds and geographic areas. Patients are admitted with acute and complex medical problems. They are generally admitted from the Emergency Department or as a transfer from intensive care units. The clinician to patient ratio is 3-4 during days and 4-5 during nights. The charting system used is EPIC. Floating may be required, but it is rare.
