Must have EPIC experience. Must be able to read and interpret telemetry. Must be willing to take on students and may precept new travelers. Description: Department: Medical Surgical Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:5, occasional 1:6, very rarely happens. Common diagnoses/Types of patients include total joints, orthopedic surgeries, and urology procedures. General surgeries include bowel resections and complicated surgeries. Experience with medical overflow patients, including COPD, behavioral health, sepsis, and infections is preferred. Charge Nurse is present on each shift and very rarely takes patients unless necessary. There are nurse aides/patient care technicians available on the unit. Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP managed by respiratory therapists. RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are 12 hours, with a scheduling process that does not guarantee block scheduling. Weekend and holiday shifts will be required based on departmental needs. Travelers may float between similar units and may also float to the emergency department for holds or 1:1 support. Dress code: Any clean and professional color is acceptable. Orientation includes general training and unit-specific training with a preceptor.
