The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during both day and night shifts. Charge nurses or house supervisors are present to assist with staffing. Patient Care Assistants are available with a ratio of 1:8-15 depending on staffing levels. All Patient Care Assistants are trained to perform phlebotomy. Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and nasal cannula. Tele monitoring is conducted with the support of monitor technicians. Nurses are not required to read strips but must recognize lethal rhythms and respond appropriately. The position requires every other weekend availability. No holiday or call requirements are in place. Travelers may float to other surgical or medical-surgical units as needed. Nurses may also be floated to the emergency department for patient holds. On average, the emergency department houses 20-30 medical-surgical patients daily. The dress code consists of royal blue scrubs. Cancellation policy includes one shift per two-week period. Charting is performed using the Epic system.
