The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The RN on this unit develops specialized skills in providing care to adults, adolescents, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. Other Responsibilities include: - Applying nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care. - Assessing patient and family needs through active listening and analyzing data obtained through direct observation and communication. - Creating individualized plans of care that address the identified health problems in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members. - Promoting, advocating for, and protecting the health, safety, and rights of patients. - Encouraging mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. - Teaching and delegating tasks consistent with the individual’s education, training, and scope of practice. - Safeguarding public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. - Motivating patients and families by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. - Assessing patient and family learning styles and maximizing understanding during education sessions. - Documenting education provided and the responses from patients and families. - Evaluating quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and initiating changes based on quality improvement activities. - Being present in interactions and anticipating patient and family needs. - Creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. - Demonstrating skill in applying interventions, including medication administration. - Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.
