Job Title: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: NC or Compact license pending Certifications: BLS required, ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration preferred Must-Have: - Willingness to obtain chemotherapy certification - Experience in an inpatient setting - Familiarity with accessing ports, blood product administration, and managing dysrhythmias Description: This unit cares for patients receiving chemotherapy. The team is seeking travelers who are either chemotherapy certified or willing to obtain certification. Certification can be obtained prior to starting the assignment or may be completed during the assignment. If travelers plan to obtain certification, they should confirm their commitment. Call-offs or additional time off may result in cancellation. The position requires call and every other weekend. Floating to similar units may be required. Patient ratios are 1:6. The unit cares for and monitors patients who have received chemotherapy. Patients may present with general medical-surgical diagnoses, including AKI, sepsis, cancer, and septic shock. Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, blood product administration, and managing medical devices. Skills required include wound care, isolation precautions, and monitoring chemotherapy. During times of increased census, patient ratios may be higher. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is required. Contract staff may be assigned to work during catastrophic events or mass casualties. The unit provides access to various oncology and chemotherapy education courses.
