We operate a Swing Bed Program and occasionally care for patients requiring a progressive care unit level of care. We balance assignments based on nursing workload and patient care level. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 for med-surg, 1:5-6 for swing bed, and 1:3-4 for progressive care, depending on infusion needs. If a nurse has a med-surg background, our supervisory staff will assist with appropriate assignments. The shift runs from 7 PM to 7 AM, with expectations for coverage on every other holiday and weekend. There is no on-call requirement.
