Description:
The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient’s episode.
The Registered Nurse develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions.
He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions.
The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing.
The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment.
The Registered Nurse applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care.
He/She assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation or assessment, technology, or health team communication.
He/She creates a developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified.
In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors patient progress.
The Registered Nurse adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition or reprioritization of needs.
He/She promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient.
The Registered Nurse encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome.

The Registered Nurse asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process.
He/She provides tools and information to assist the patient’s family after discharge.
The Registered Nurse documents the education provided and the patient and family response to the education.
He/She systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery.
The Registered Nurse engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial.
He/She takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills.
