This unit has a total of 44 beds and approximately 40 staff members. BLS and NIHSS certifications are required (both must be from AHA). Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:5, and possibly 1:6 for both days and nights. Experience with Meditech EMR is preferred but not required. Certified Nursing Assistants are present on the unit, typically with a ratio of 1:8, and generally 1:10. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend, with holidays as needed. Scrub color required is Caribbean Blue. Monitoring is available, but it takes place on a different unit. Floating to all acute care and cardiac units may be required to care for medical patients or hold patients in the emergency care area. General orientation spans one week and includes EMR training. Floor-specific orientation lasts for two days. The care setting is acute. The division is nursing. Shift notes include 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. shifts. Required certifications include BLS (AHA) and NIHSS.
