Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience required - Experience at a larger facility with many surgeries and high acuity patients - Comfort with lines and chest tubes Description: Hiring for holiday coverage. Travelers are expected to be available to work two major and two minor holiday dates, which can be discussed during the interview. Minor holidays include the day before or after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. Major holidays include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Fingerprinting is required with an in-person process available. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio for all medical/surgical units is 1:5 up to 1:6 at times. The ratio may be adjusted down for higher acuity patients. Patients currently include those with infectious diseases as well as medical/surgical overflow. RNs will titrate drips, such as heparin, and could have an order for amiodarone. All units have telemetry capability, with patients monitored on all units. Central monitor stations will communicate with RNs. Charge nurses can take light patient assignments but may take full patient loads if needed. There are nurse aids on the unit. CPAP and BiPAP equipment is available at night, with respiratory therapy assistance. Shifts are 12 hours, either from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Travelers are expected to fill scheduling gaps, but block scheduling may be accommodated. Weekend requirements are typically every other weekend or two weekends per month, subject to department needs. Holidays require rotation in with regular staff. Floating is required within skillset, with staff floating between all medical/surgical units. Scrubs must be solid colors and professional. Unit/department-specific orientation will occur on the first day, including paperwork, logins, and a unit tour. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN is not required. This is an acute care setting.
