Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years RN experience with a minimum of 6 months recent Level 1 trauma experience or experience at a larger facility with high acuity patients License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS for Charge RNs Must-Have: - Proficient with EPIC charting - At least 1 completed travel assignment Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Medical Surgical setting. The unit consists of 13 beds with nurse to patient ratios ranging from 1:5 to 1:6. Ratios may be adjusted for higher acuity patients. Common diagnoses and types of patients include general medical-surgical cases, congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical care, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, and respiratory illnesses. RNs will be responsible for titrating heparin drips and managing patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen. Every unit has telemetry capability with patient monitoring systems in place. Charge Nurses take light patient assignments but must be ready to take a full load of patients if necessary. There is an educator and manager for each unit, with smaller units sharing management and educational resources. Nurse aides support all units. Staff are expected to float between all medical-surgical units within their skill set. Every other weekend requirement is standard, with the possibility of increased weekend staffing based on departmental needs. Holiday staffing will be rotated among regular staff. No on-call or standby requirements are present. Scrub color must be solid and professional. Orientation includes paperwork, system logins, and unit familiarization.
