Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver attentive and compassionate patient-centered care on a 34-bed Post-Op Med/Surg unit with a 6:1 patient ratio
  • Conduct bedside shift reports and actively include patients and family members in plan-of-care discussions
  • Perform IV starts, basic wound care, and maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes
  • Operate and monitor unit equipment including IV pumps, telemetry, continuous pulse ox machines, PCA, feeding pumps, EKG machines, bladder scanners, and SCDs
  • Document accurately using the Meditech electronic health record system
  • Float as needed per unit policy; contract labor is first to float on a rotation basis when multiple contract staff are scheduled
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN license (must be valid and in good standing)
  • BLS certification (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience
  • Ability to prioritize care and multitask in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Compliance with facility dress code: navy scrub tops and bottoms required
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a Post-Op or surgical Med/Surg setting
  • Familiarity with Meditech documentation system
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring and management of chest tubes or surgical drains
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build rapport with patients and families
