Common diagnoses in this unit include myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, cerebrovascular accidents, syncope, diabetes ketoacidosis, congestive heart failure, post pacemaker, stent procedures, COVID-19, end-stage renal disease, and pulmonary embolism.

Ratios may vary, typically 1:6, and could go to 1:8 at times. The RN will be expected to work every other weekend. Floating may be required to other units as needed. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Common diagnoses in this unit include myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, cerebrovascular accidents, syncope, diabetes ketoacidosis, congestive heart failure, post pacemaker, stent procedures, COVID-19, end-stage renal disease, and pulmonary embolism. Staffing includes interdisciplinary support from physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary. The RN must be proficient in blood product administration, cardiac telemetry, central line care and management, continuous bladder irrigation, and feeding tube care and management. Team members must adhere to infection control protocols. The facility patients typically have a daily census of around 35 with 46 available beds. Continuous education and training are emphasized to maintain high standards of care and safety.
