The facility is a small community healthcare system licensed for 100 beds. Usual occupancy is around 88 beds, and the organization is constantly growing and expanding. This is a non-trauma teaching facility where medical students and local nursing students frequently rotate. No additional on-site testing is required. IV pumps used are Baxter Sigma and cardiac monitors are from Neon Kohden. The medication dispensing system is Omnicell. Electronic medical records system is CPSI - Evident Thrive, which is user-friendly. Travel staff will receive a pre-orientation packet containing policies and procedures. Actual orientation consists of 1 day. Free staff parking is available. The cafeteria operates from 7 AM to 6 PM and serves high-quality food. Clocking in and out using the hospital system is required. Travelers must have their supervisors sign their time cards. Housing options are available nearby. Patient ratios for Medical Surgical typically range from 1 to 6, with a maximum of 1 to 7 in rare cases. During normal conditions, PCU staffing ratios are 1 to 4. A charge nurse is present during the day shifts; evenings may also have a charge nurse, while nights utilize a senior nurse. Patient Care Technicians support the nursing staff, typically there are 4 PCTs for 24 patients. Weekend shifts are every other weekend. Holiday shifts are part of the regular staffing rotation. Preferred scrub colors are navy, but black or gray are acceptable. Telemetry is monitored remotely. Nurses are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips. Occasional use of CPAP, BiPAP, or high flow oxygen is expected. In-house healthcare providers manage all emergencies and are available 24/7. There is no dedicated IV team, but several staff members are certified to assist with difficult IV placements. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 and handles all breathing treatments and EKGs. Pharmacy services are not available 24/7 but are supported by the medication dispensing system. Perm staff usually work 8-hour shifts; the primary need is for evening shifts. All travelers may be required to float within their skill set, supporting flexible staffing needs. Orientation includes setup with computer log-in, ID badge, and instruction on charting system and patient management. Cancellations are limited to 2 shifts per contract duration. Charting is done using the TruBridge system. A BSN is not required for this position.
