Description:

Acute Med/Surg Registered Nurse – Part Time (2x12s)Shift Details
  • Part Time — 2x12-hour shifts per week
  • Day/night variable shift, scheduled as needed
  • Rotational Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • Holiday coverage required
  • Contracts must run through holidays — 22 to 26 weeks
Licensure & Certifications Required
  • NYS RN Licensure (required)
  • BLS (required)
  • ACLS (required)
Experience Required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Med/Surg environment
Position Overview
  • The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families
  • Assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode
  • Develops specialized skill in the area of cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring
  • Accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
  • Promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment
Application of Nursing Knowledge & Care Delivery
  • Assesses patient and family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data obtained through direct observation, technology, or health team communication
  • Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of identified health problems
  • In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and health care team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress
  • Adjusts the plan of care based on patient response or change in condition and reprioritization of needs
  • Demonstrates skill in application of nursing interventions, including medication administration
Quality, Safety & Professional Development
  • Promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
  • Uses the results of Quality Improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and to influence care delivery
