Description

Job Title: MICU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 34.5 Hours Experience: Minimum 1 Year in MICU License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS Preferred: CCRN Must-Have: Must have some MICU experience. Must be able to titrate all drips. Required certifications must be current. Description: Department includes 26 beds with typically 14 nurses per shift. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1-2, with possible 3 when short-staffed. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac arrest, sepsis, neurosurgical conditions, DKA, induced hypothermia, GI bleed, angioedema, and more. Charge nurse does not have a patient assignment and responds to codes and rapid response teams. Patient care technicians are available, with 3 for day shift and 2 for night shift. There are fellows and residents in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapists are present in ICU 24/7, managing equipment while nurses administer breathing treatments. Centralized telemetry monitoring occurs at the nurses' station, and nurses must be able to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Travelers are to provide availability but should remain flexible with scheduling. At least 2 weekends are required per 4-week schedule. May be asked to participate in holiday rotations. Travelers will float first, only to step-down units with ratios of 1:3-4. Scrub color is royal blue. Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days of classroom training and 1 day with a preceptor.
