Description:
This position involves working in a Level III Trauma Center Intensive Care Unit.
The ICU consists of 20 beds, and we care for a wide range of adult patients.
Patient diagnoses may include substance abuse, severe psychiatric conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock.
Attendings and residents are present in the ICU 24 hours a day.
Telemetry competency is required for this role.
The nursing staff ratio is typically 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity.
When floated to other medical/surgical areas, the ratio may be 1:4 or 1:5.
Experience in adult ICU is essential for this role.
Rotating shifts may be required for day positions, while night shifts do not rotate.
Charting is completed using an electronic medical record system.
