Description: This position requires working shifts in a Medical/Surgical ICU with floating required. The unit cares for a wide range of adult patients with diagnoses such as substance abuse, severe psychiatric conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, gastrointestinal bleed, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, renal failure, and cardiogenic shock. Attending physicians and residents are present in the ICU 24 hours a day. The unit is a 20-bed MICU. The RN to Patient Ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 with high acuity; 1:4 or 1:5 when floated to other medical/surgical areas. Floating will mostly be required to medical/surgical units, which could involve up to 4 or 5 patients. Rotating shifts are required, including day and night positions. Day rotators may be rotated between different shift times when needed. The electronic medical record system used for charting is EPIC.
