The department is responsible for monitoring and caring for critically ill patients. The unit typically has 26 beds and requires 14 nurses per shift. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2, with a possibility of 3 patients for short staffing. Common diagnoses include cardiac arrest, sepsis, neuro surgical conditions, and more. Experience in handling invasive monitoring and critical care procedures is essential. Charge nurses do not have patient assignments but respond to codes. Patient care technicians are available to assist nursing staff. Respiratory therapists are on-site 24/7 to manage equipment. Nurses must be capable of administering medications and treatments effectively. There may be a requirement to work at least 2 weekends per 4-week schedule. Holiday shifts may be required as part of the rotation. Traveling staff may be required to float to similar units as necessary. The dress code for nursing staff is royal blue scrubs. Unit-specific orientation and training will be provided.
