Description:
This position involves working in a medical intensive care unit.
The patient population primarily includes adults and geriatrics.
Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, adult respiratory distress syndrome, gastrointestinal bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, and sepsis.
The registered nurse will administer treatments for patients who are hemodynamically compromised.
Common procedures may include mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, continuous renal replacement therapy, arterial pressure and cardiac monitoring, and administration of complex medication regimens.
The nurse will also be involved in chemotherapy administration and participation in clinical trials.
Interdisciplinary support is available from respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams, among others.
The registered nurse must be able to manage various medical equipment and perform necessary clinical procedures.
A teamwork approach is essential for patient care and support within the unit.
