Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year of experience required License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ability to interpret EKG strips - Experience with arterial lines and central lines - Proficiency in care of ventilated patients - Advanced knowledge in titrating vasopressors Description: The Intensive Care Unit has 20 beds. Nurse to patient ratio is 1 RN to 2 Patients. The unit primarily manages patients with illnesses such as sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, acute kidney injury, alcohol withdrawal, and overdose. RNs are required to titrate various vasoactive and cardioactive medications. Charge RNs are available as staffing allows. A house supervisor is present 24/7. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1 PCT to 10 patients. Intensivists are on-site from morning to evening, with telemedicine support available after hours. RNs will troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment but are not responsible for its operation. Telemetry technicians are on the unit, but RNs must read and interpret their own EKG strips. The unit operates on a 12-hour shift schedule from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. No holiday requirements are typically expected, depending on staffing needs. Travelers may float to lower levels of care, with adjusted patient assignments. Scrubs are not provided, and there is no specific color requirement for uniforms. Each traveler will receive thorough orientation and training in unit operations.
