Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: MICU Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Valid state nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS required Must-Have: - Previous charge experience preferred - Patient ratio experience required - Charting system experience required Description: Registered Nurse will have primarily step-down unit assignments. Assignments will be at a ratio of 3 patients to 1 nurse. The role may include occasional intensive care unit coverage if needed. There is potential for floating to other units as required. Average patient ratios are 1:3 during days, nights, and weekends. Call is required. The nurse must be willing to float to progressive care unit and other intensive care units as needed. Weekend coverage may be necessary. Nurse will manage arterial lines and care for ventilated patients. Central line care and management is also a responsibility. Continuous IV sedation will be administered when necessary. Nurse will interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias. Isolation precautions and personal protective equipment will be utilized. Management of dysrhythmias is expected. Nurse will care for patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure. The patient population includes those with acute respiratory failure, sepsis, liver and renal failure, post-cardiac arrest, and gastrointestinal bleed. The intensive care unit operates with 1:1 or 2:1 ratios, depending on the patient acuity, unless there are extenuating circumstances. In the step-down unit, the patient ratio is 3:1. Support staff includes patient care associates. Nurse will participate as part of an interdisciplinary team. Traveling nurses must have at least 2 years of experience in the specialty area. Local candidates are not accepted.
