Travel Nurse RN - Med/Surg / Telemetry in Wilmington, NC

Key Responsibilities Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases. Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, CHF, GI bleed, renal failure, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
• Perform telemetry monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response/Code teams as needed
• Manage IV therapy including central lines, PICC lines, peripheral lines, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products, heparin, insulin, and PCA
• Provide respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP management, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Perform wound care, wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and chest tube care
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start; valid BLS and NIHSS certifications required

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending license acceptable for submission)
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical/Telemetry RN experience
• BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Must be able to work every other weekend and 2 of 3 major holidays; no block schedules unless a weekend block
• Must be open to floating to a nearby campus as required
• Local candidates are welcome; candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a local rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, and post-MI care
• Experience with tracheostomy care, arterial blood gas interpretation, continuous bladder irrigation, port access/management, and IV insulin protocols
• Previous charge nurse experience
• Community hospital experience and proficiency with electronic documentation
