Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Cardiac Renal Unit)

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) | 36 Guaranteed Hours Per Week

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a 34-bed Cardiac Renal Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit serving a patient population that includes post-cardiac procedure patients (heart cath, ablation, pacemaker), A-fib RVR, ESRD, CHF, sepsis, tracheostomies, nephrostomy tubes, CBI, renal biopsy, and behavioral health/detox patients
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation, including passing required telemetry competency testing
  • Manage cardiac and other IV drip therapies (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin, Lasix, Protonix, etc.) and perform recovery of heart catheterizations (femoral/TR bands)
  • Perform PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, central line care, CBI management, and CIWA/detox protocol management
  • Float within skillset as needed, including to a sister campus location within Indiana and potentially a Kentucky campus, with a minimum of 2-hour notice provided for cross-campus floats
  • May precept nursing students and new hires as this is a teaching facility
Required Qualifications
  • Current, active RN Compact License required
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Minimum of two years of strong cardiac/telemetry nursing experience
  • At least one prior travel nursing assignment and Trauma Level II experience required
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Recent experience with EPIC electronic health records (competency check-off will be required upon start)
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex, high-acuity cardiac and renal patient populations
  • Experience with CIWA protocol and behavioral health/detox patient management
  • Demonstrated resilience, adaptability to change, and strong interpersonal skills in a team-oriented environment
