Unit Manager – Med/Tele + ED Hold / Float Pool | BronxCare Hospital Center
Facility: BronxCare Hospital Center – Grand Concourse Campus
Setting: Acute Care Hospital
Role: Unit Manager
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM with 1-hour lunch
EMR: Allscripts
BSN Required: No
License Required at Submission: Yes
Required Experience
- Must have prior Unit Manager experience in a hospital setting
- Must have Med/Surg + Telemetry experience
- Must have stroke experience
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry
- Oversees:
- 8th Floor Med/Tele Unit
- ED Hold
- Float Pool
Unit Details
- 25 beds
- Med/Surg ratio: 1:5
- Telemetry ratio: 1:4
- Mixed-acuity patient population
Common diagnoses include:
- General Med/Surg
- Active stroke patients post-ICU
- COPD
- CHF
- Pneumonia
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Polysubstance abuse
- Behavioral health / psych patients
- Post-surgical patients
Certifications
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- BronxCare de-escalation training
- 8 hours of stroke education required
- Does not have to be NIHSS
- Facility can provide an additional 4 hours of stroke education
Telemetry / Clinical Details
- Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors
- Monitor tech located on another unit
- RNs are responsible for printing and interpreting their own strips once per shift
- No routine titratable drips
- Heparin may be used
Staffing / Support
- Charge RN may take a light assignment when needed
- PCTs assist with:
- ADLs
- Vital signs
- EKGs
- Phlebotomy when competent
- Linen changes
- Restocking and basic patient care
- Respiratory Therapy available for treatments and respiratory equipment
Floating
May float to other Med/Surg-Tele units based on need. Could float to the 15th-floor Long-Term Pulmonary unit, although travelers will not be assigned ventilator patients.
Travelers are first to float.
Scheduling
- Every other weekend
- May participate in holiday rotation
- No call or standby
- Scheduling is built in 4–6 week blocks
- Facility will consider availability but block scheduling is not guaranteed
Additional Details
- Scrubs: Royal Blue
- Unit Orientation: 1 day with a preceptor
- Cancellation Policy: Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
Biggest submission hard stop: Candidate must have actual hospital-based Unit Manager experience in addition to strong Med/Tele, telemetry interpretation, and stroke experience.
