Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Neuro Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a large urban hospital License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: EPIC charting experience Description: RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs. The specialty involves mixed acuity, including Medical Surgical/Telemetry and Stepdown care. RNs should be prepared to care for up to six Med Surg patients on a 48-bed unit. The unit specializes in Client and Neurosurgery, with a focus on various neurological conditions. Patient populations include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions. The nurse to patient ratio for MS/Telemetry is 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. Depending on staffing situations, night ratios may occasionally include 1:7. The stepdown nurse to patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:4 for both days and nights. Experience with drips is required across all floors. First-time travelers will not be considered unless they have two years of experience in a Level I Academic Medical Center. Floating may occur within the scope to meet facility needs. Travelers are required to work a minimum of 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible within a four-week period. Weekend shifts include Saturdays and Sundays for day shifts, and Friday and Saturday nights for night shifts. Two weeks of requested time off (RTO) is permitted, with additional requests considered at management's discretion. Travelers must work 2 of 3 major holidays. Candidates must be more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible. Pending licenses are accepted, but the license must be in hand prior to the start date. Scrubs in a specified color and style are mandatory for all RNs. The facility is nicotine-free. Experience in a Level 1 trauma facility within the last year is required. Recent EPIC charting experience is necessary. Candidates should have less than one year between permanent and travel positions. RNs must possess skills in MS/Tele, including management of dysrhythmias and cardiac telemetry. Experience with specific drips and rapid response is required. Inpatient experience in acute care settings is essential.
