We are seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) for a Universal Care Unit on the night shift. This unit provides care for patients who do not require inpatient admission but need continued monitoring and treatment for several hours or overnight.

 

No Sunday shifts. Rotating every-other-Saturday coverage is required.

Patients may include Med Surg/Telemetry observation patients and admission holds in an overflow area, including cardiac, GI, respiratory, and potential fall patients requiring repeat CT imaging when on blood thinners.

 

Required Certifications

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • CPI — MAB or CPI accepted
  • CA RN License
  • BSN

Certifications must be AHA or ARC.

 

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience unless otherwise specified
  • Travel RN experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Previous charge experience preferred/required as applicable
  • Must be comfortable caring for a 1:4 patient ratio
  • Valid California RN license
  • Nursys verification uploaded within the last 2 weeks

Primary Responsibilities

  • Complete initial nursing histories and comprehensive patient assessments
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
  • Provide direct patient care and evaluate patient outcomes
  • Coordinate care for a group of patients and delegate appropriately to support personnel
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately
  • Assist physicians with examinations and special procedures
  • Initiate emergency interventions, including response to cardiac arrest and other acute events
  • Educate patients and families regarding healthcare needs and treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant patient documentation
  • Follow medical screening and triage protocols
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic patient environment
  • Report significant patient observations and responses to treatment to the Universal Care Physician
  • Serve as relief Charge Nurse when assigned
  • Supervise and support nursing staff and assigned personnel
  • Participate in orientation, training, quality improvement, staff meetings, and unit committees
  • Support professional development through education, literature, in-services, and workshops
  • Maintain patient dignity, autonomy, privacy, confidentiality, and rights
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and families
  • Explain procedures and help alleviate patient anxiety
  • Prioritize workload and provide prompt, efficient patient care
  • Float to other units within the Emergency Services Division when required
  • Identify patients who require initiation of care
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
