Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

Provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

Education

• Participate in identifying and meeting personal learning needs.
• Attend educational programs based on identified learning needs.
• Utilize patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
• Assess the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
• Evaluate the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.

Evaluation of Care

• Identify expected patient outcomes.
• Seek guidance as needed for revision of the plan of care.
• Participate in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
• Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.

Implementation

• Demonstrate competence in the care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
• Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
• Utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivery of care.
• Organize and prioritize care according to patient and family needs.
• Consult with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues in a timely manner.

Leadership

• Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance.
• Achieve goals and objectives within the defined time frame or renegotiate with a supervisor.
• Facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration.

• Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans.
• Utilize available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.

• Identify and address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
• Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.

Research

• Read journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice.
• Bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
• Two (2) or more years of MedSurg/Telemetry experience.
• Previous neuro experience is required.
• Remote Tele experience is highly preferred.

Education

• Required: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) required.
