Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Inpatient Surgery Unit – North Carolina
Start Date: November 2, 2026
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), 36 or 48-hour contracts accepted, every other weekend required, no call required, floating as needed
Highlights:
- Combination acuity unit serving adult medical-surgical and surgical stepdown patients with diverse surgical and trauma cases
- Patient ratio of 1:6, requiring strong organizational and time-management skills
- EPIC charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, rapid response, pharmacy, and respiratory services
- Contract lengths available from 13 to 26 weeks with flexibility for 36 or 48-hour weekly commitments
- 24 hours of floor training with 2 days of hospital orientation to ensure successful onboarding
- Experience with advanced equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes, and multiple drain systems
Requirements:
- Active North Carolina or Compact RN license
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (1 year considered for experienced first-time travelers)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start date
- Comfortable managing 1:6 patient ratios in a fast-paced surgical/telemetry environment
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Proficiency in wound care, central line management, blood product administration, and isolation precautions
- Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Ability to work every other weekend and major holidays as scheduled
- Willingness to float within facility as needed and participate in storm/disaster preparedness teams
Patient Population:
This unit cares for adult patients with a wide range of surgical and trauma-related diagnoses including appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstructions, peripheral vascular disease, hernias, and other acute surgical conditions.
Common Procedures:
Nurses support patients through diverse surgical interventions including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation or closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass procedures.
