Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a telemetry unit specializing in orthopedic, urology, and neuro patients.

Shift Information

• Shift Type: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday required.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 29
• Nurse:Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses:
  • Orthopedic Trauma (fractures, joint replacements)
  • Vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy)
  • Urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation)
  • Neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion)
  • OBGYN Oncology (TAH/OBS)
  • Acute Medical cases

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience
• Certifications: Current BLS (AHA) certification required

Job Responsibilities

• Titrate medication drips, such as heparin, following a prescribed nomogram.
• Collaborate with telemetry technicians who monitor heart rhythms; RNs are not required to read strips.
• Participate in patient care alongside Nursing Assistants.
• Manage RT equipment, including CPAP and BIPAP, with RT support available.
• Float to other adult medical/surgical nursing units as needed.
• Complete orientation involving 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation.
