Job Description – RN (Registered Nurse), Med/Surg Float
Shift: Nights, 48-Hour Guaranteed Hours

Unit Notes:

• 128 beds; ratio of 1:6
• Float pool covers Med/Onc, 2 surgical units, and 2 medical units
• Total care model — no PCAs
• No tele — only occasional strip reading; remote tele monitoring in place
• Large hospital experience required
• Common case types: Surgical services (colorectal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, general, ortho); medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, COPD, kidney, GI conditions)
• No titratable drips required
• Charge Nurse present each shift and takes an assignment
• Nurse aides/patient care techs present, ratios vary
• Respiratory therapy available to assist as needed (RNs do nasal cannula on floors only)
• Staff assigned to need areas — no self-scheduling
• Floating required to any Med/Surg pod
• Scrub color: Navy (not provided)
• Unit/department-specific orientation: 3 shifts
