Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Island Unit Hardstops:

  • Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered Massachusetts (MA) State RN License held in hand at submission.
  • Experience Baseline: Minimum 1–2+ years of dedicated Medical/Surgical RN clinical experience (Critical Access Hospital experience preferred).
  • Mandatory Certifications Required:
    • Active AHA BLS
    • Active AHA ACLS
    • Active AHA PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support required for island emergency/pediatric Med/Surg overflow)
  • Shift Flexibility: Candidates must be fully willing and able to work a rotating shift schedule (Days and Nights).
  • Housing Policy: Shared housing is provided free of charge by the facility due to limited island housing availability.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A Hospital in Nantucket, MA is seeking a versatile Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN Med/Surg) for a 14-week travel assignment on Nantucket Island. As the primary inpatient unit for an isolated island Critical Access Hospital, the Med/Surg unit handles a diverse, multi-acuity patient population ranging from adult medical-surgical admissions to pediatric stabilization and intermediate observational care.

  • Inpatient Nursing Care: Deliver comprehensive assessment, clinical monitoring, medication administration, and plan-of-care execution for general medical, post-surgical, geriatric, and pediatric patients.
  • Acute Stabilization & Resuscitation: Recognize clinical deterioration rapidly and initiate emergency protocols using ACLS and PALS guidelines in an island facility setting prior to potential mainland medevac transfers.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with island hospitalists, surgical teams, physical therapy, discharge planners, and mainland transfer coordinators.
  • Patient & Family Education: Facilitate thorough discharge planning, post-operative care instructions, disease management, and medication administration education.
