- Ability to titrate drips, including Heparin and occasionally nitro, Cardizem, and insulin
- Must be able to read telemetry strips
Description:
The unit consists of 15 beds.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day shift and 1:5-6 during the night shift.
Common diagnoses include post-surgical patients from orthopedic, urology, gynecology/oncology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, ENT, plastics, and GI specialties.
Patients may also include acute medical cases with a short anticipated length of stay.
Telemetry support is present, and remote technicians will monitor strips.
Nursing assistants are on the unit from 0630-1900, maintaining a 1:8-12 ratio.
Registered Nurses will have a lower ratio during the night shifts when nursing assistants are not present.
Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BIPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy; however, there are no ventilators.
There is a charge nurse on all shifts who also takes an assignment.
A house supervisor is available on all shifts.
Floating to other adult medical/surgical nursing units may be required.
Self-scheduling is not practiced; block scheduling is utilized based on staffing needs.
Every other weekend and holiday coverage is required.
All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
