The focus is on the acute and chronic needs of patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable. The unit is fast-paced with a focus on trauma patients admitted from the emergency department or transferred from the ICU. Ratios are 1:5 days and 1:6 nights, with potential for rare night ratios of 1:7. BLS certification is required. The role requires 2 years of prior nursing experience in a large urban hospital setting. Charting experience with EPIC is required. First-time travelers are not accepted unless they have experience at a Level I medical facility. Floating between units is expected to meet staffing needs. RNs must be prepared to float frequently including to potential other campuses. The nursing staff includes CNAs and care teams comprised of various support roles. Weekend shifts are required; four weekend shifts out of eight potential in a four-week period. Travelers must work two out of three major holidays per year. Candidates must be nicotine-free. A detailed skillset is needed, including but not limited to blood product administration, central line management, and telemetry monitoring. Additional skills such as interpretation of dysrhythmias and tracheostomy care are essential. This unit has an interdisciplinary support team including respiratory services, pharmacy, and physical therapy among others. Amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin are examples of required drips. This is a 100% nicotine-free facility. Travelers are expected to meet all compliance requirements throughout their contract duration.
