Registered Nurse / Neuro Med-Surg Tele

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Med-Surg Telemetry unit. This role involves providing high-quality care to patients with neurological diagnoses and related medical conditions. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a telemetry setting, with the ability to deliver excellent patient care while adapting to the varying needs of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, seizures, and other related diagnoses.
• Monitor and analyze telemetry data, taking appropriate actions based on patient conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record system (Cerner).
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans.
• Float to other Med-Surg and Med-Surg/Telemetry units based on patient needs and facility requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Med-Surg/Telemetry experience is required.
• Neurology experience is essential.
• Preferred experience in a teaching hospital or Level I or Level II trauma center.
• Certification in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale is required.
• Completion of Basic EKG testing through Prophecy Relias prior to orientation.
• Maryland or compact RN license required upon submission.
• CVA/acute stroke care experience and pre/post-neurosurgery experience is required.
• Experience in feeding-tube care, pre/post-hemodialysis care, and renal failure management is preferred.
• Other experience in wound care, oxygen administration, and utilizing isolation/PPE is essential.

Schedule

• This position requires a commitment to 3 shifts per week, working from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
• The candidate must be available to work every other weekend and holiday.
• Time off requests of 14 days or less will be automatically approved, though restrictions apply during peak periods such as winter and summer holidays.

Additional Information

• This unit comprises a 36-bed Neuro Med-Surg/Telemetry environment that functions as a Certified Stroke Center and Level IV Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
• Patients will typically have diagnoses including CVA, ischemic strokes, epilepsy, and related conditions.
• The role requires a commitment to ongoing education, with 8 hours of annual stroke CEs and 4 hours of trauma-related CEs.
• Navy blue scrubs are to be worn in accordance with unit policies.
