Experience in oncology is preferred but not required. A nursing staffing ratio goal is 1:4, but it may reach 1:5 depending on patient load. Weekends will vary based on unit needs. Common diagnoses include various types of solid tumor cancers and the administration of antineoplastic chemotherapy. The unit emphasizes infection prevention protocols and management of patient falls. The nurse will provide care throughout the cancer journey, including end-of-life transitions. Skills required include telemetry interpretation and monitoring. Previously experienced with computerized charting systems is necessary. Candidates should be familiar with equipment used in oncology care, such as telemetry monitors and IV pumps. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential for patient care. Floating to other units and variable weekend shifts are requirements of this role. Two professional references are required, including one from a managerial role. Valid licenses must be obtained before applying. Education must be from an accredited nursing program. All candidates should prepare for an urgent credentialing process.
