Description:
This position is in a Level III Trauma Center.
The facility features a Level III NICU and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
The total number of beds is 933.
The nursing unit typically handles patient types that include cath lab, amputations, and pre-surgical cases.
Patients are often sent for surgery and may not return unless no further intervention is needed.
Open heart and vascular patients will not return to this unit.
Additional patients include those with chronic heart failure, EP studies, AFib, and dysrhythmias.
Successful candidates will be responsible for Coumadin loading procedures.
Patient ratios for RNs are 1:4-5 during Days/PMs (0700-2330) and 1:6-8 overnight (2300-0700).
Tech ratios are 1:6 during the day shift and 1:7 at night.
Support on the unit includes charge nurses who manage 2-3 patients on days and a full assignment on nights.
There is a unit secretary available 24/7 along with hospitalists and respiratory therapists.
Centralized telemetry monitoring is provided 24/7 with a telemetry tech and phlebotomy assistance for peripheral blood draws.
The preferred charting system is EPIC, and the facility uses Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors.
Floating to other inpatient areas may occur within the scope of practice, including rare opportunities to float to the ICU for appropriate MS patient assignments.
Travelers are the first to float.
Scheduling involves a weekend rotation every other weekend, with no block scheduling allowed.
Employees may request time off for up to 7 days.
There are no on-call requirements.
Holiday expectations include one summer and one winter holiday.
All staff must adhere to a fatigue policy, limiting weekly hours to 60 and shifts to a maximum of 5 consecutive 12-hour days.
Scrub color is flexible, with the exception of camo and denim.
Pain levels must be documented before and after administering pain medications.
This includes a requirement that pain scores align with medication orders.
For example, a patient with a pain score of 8 cannot receive Tylenol ordered for scores of 1-3 without additional approval.
