Job Title: RN Medical Surgical Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2+ years License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Ventilation experience required, with additional training provided. - Charge experience required and willingness to perform charge duties. - Telemetry experience. Description: This is a Level III Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The facility has 933 beds, including 24 private rooms. There are 4 rooms designated for ventilated patients. Patient types include medical diagnoses such as COPD, chest pain, COVID, diabetes, cellulitis, chronic tracheostomies, wounds, and heart failure. Surgical patients will have undergone less extensive surgeries. The average length of stay for patients is 5-10 days. Patients may require wound care, surgical/post-operative care, IV skills, wound vac management, PEG tubes, tube feedings, and TPN. Tracheostomy care is common in this unit. Traveling nurses will care for ventilated patients, and a 2-3 hour ventilation class will be provided upon arrival. There will be an additional 12 hours of orientation specific to ventilated patients. Patient ratios are as follows: During the day and evening shifts, the ratio is 1 nurse to 4-5 patients. During the night shift, the ratio is 1 nurse to 6-7 patients. Patient care techs will ratio at 1:6 during day shifts and 1:8 during night shifts. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse with a light assignment if staffing allows, a unit secretary available 24/7, hospitalist support, and respiratory therapy available around the clock. Centralized telemetry monitoring is in place. Phlebotomy services will assist with peripheral blood draws. Charting is completed using the EPIC system. The schedule is made six weeks in advance and will be provided two weeks prior to the start. Weekend rotation is every other week. Holidays will be worked based on contractual obligations. Staff adherence to fatigue policies is essential. Scrub color is flexible, but camo and denim are not allowed. Documentation of pain levels before and after administering pain medications is required. Pain scores must match the medication orders for appropriate treatment.
