Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Client
Trach care, chest tube management, IV insertion and care, central line management
Wound care and post-op monitoring, groin management, Foley insertion and care
Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
Care coordination with the interdisciplinary team and discharge planning
Description:
This position is for an RN specializing in MedSurg/Tele.
The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a teaching hospital.
There are 30 beds on the unit with an average census of 30 patients.
Common diagnoses include heart failure, A-Fib, acute kidney injury, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes.
Patients may have acute or chronic diseases as well as post-op surgeries and post-cardiac procedures.
The RN will maintain patient ratios of 1:4-6.
Support is provided by CNAs who assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients.
The unit features a dedicated unit secretary from 7 AM to 11 PM and central telemetry tech.
There is a resource nurse team available for discharges.
The facility uses EPIC as the electronic medical record system and has various technologies for patient monitoring and care.
Floating may occur to all adult med-surg/telemetry units within the facility.
Due to the unit's busy culture, teamwork is essential.
Scheduling includes a rotation of 5-6 weekend shifts out of a 12-shift schedule.
Holiday requirements include working one shift of each major holiday.
Requests for time off must receive manager approval.
