Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg/Tele

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with experience in Med/Surg and Telemetry to join our team in providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in management of dysrhythmias and have experience with neuro patients, such as those recovering from stroke or undergoing neurosurgery.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience.
• Experience as a traveler with at least 2 successful contracts.
• IV Start and Telemetry skills, including the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Med/Surg neuro experience is essential.

Certifications:

• BCLS
• NIHSS
• NIH (National Institutes of Health)
• ACLS (preferred, but not required)

Job Details:

• Patient Ratios: 1:6.
• Available shifts: 12-hour night shifts, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Weekend coverage is required; travelers must work every other weekend.
• Floating to other Med/Surg/Tele areas may be required, including COVID care units.
• Call-offs or additional requested time off may lead to contract cancellation.

Patient Populations:

The unit primarily cares for stroke patients, including those with a variety of neuro diagnoses such as epilepsy and traumatic/non-traumatic subdural hematomas. The team also cares for post-neurosurgery patients.

Special Procedures/Unit Details:

• The unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Daily census of approximately 42 patients and 43 total rooms/beds available.

Unit Systems:

• PYXIS
• EPIC
• SBAR

Orientation:

A comprehensive 36-hour orientation will be provided to ensure a smooth transition into the unit.

Uniform:

Navy scrubs are required.

Important Notes:

• Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
• Specific Med/Surg experience is mandatory for this position.
