Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg-Telemetry units within a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Level 1 Trauma Center with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations, 637 licensed beds
  • Each Med/Surg unit has 20-36 beds
  • Patient population includes acute/chronic disease, common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN patient ratio of 1:4-6, LPN ratio of 1:4-6, CNA ratio up to 1:14
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call requirements
  • Required to float to all Med/Surg-Telemetry units and to the ED for holds
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
  • Central telemetry monitoring unit supports cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Unit supported by CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred, with EKG competency exam required during onboarding
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • 6 months of EPIC EMR experience required
  • Skills required: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander use, strong assessment and time management skills, interdisciplinary care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education
  • Telemetry skills required: cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
  • Drip management required for insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine, including HR titration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across Med/Surg-Telemetry units in a busy, team-oriented environment
  • Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including one shift each for Thanksgiving or the day after, and Christmas Eve/Day or New Year's Eve/Day
  • RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking as an alternative
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and no rate differential
  • Returning travelers must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
