Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical (MS/Tele Onc C5) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent experience License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: - Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips - Strong post-operative assessment and time management skills - Recent experience within the past 6 months Description: This position requires ACLS certification and the ability to read and interpret telemetry strips. All medical-surgical units have cardiac monitoring. Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the past 12 months. Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start with a maximum of two attempts. Failure to pass will result in a DNU for a specified period. There is a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 4:1 with support from patient care technicians on day shifts. Common diagnoses include colorectal, urological, bariatric, hepatobiliary, hysterectomy, and breast reconstruction as well as chemotherapy/oncology patients. Registered nurses are required to read their own telemetry strips. The charge nurse does not take an assignment but may assist with chemotherapy administration. Day shifts typically have patient care technicians available. Equipment available includes CPAP and high-flow oxygen for palliative care. Self-scheduling is allowed with weekend requirements of four shifts every four weeks. There is a holiday rotation schedule. There is a standby requirement monitored by staffing. RNs must have telemetry experience for floating to other medical-surgical/telemetry units. Navy blue scrubs are the designated dress code. Nurse-specific orientation is provided with a preceptor over two shifts. An ONS Chemo Provider Card is preferred. This unit is prepared to accommodate additional patients as needed. The hospital can cancel a limited number of shifts per assignment duration. Charting system used is Cerner.
