Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in Med/Surg to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of nursing experience, with a minimum of one year in a Med/Surg setting. This position entails caring primarily for stroke patients, along with surgical and other neurological diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Med/Surg unit.
  • Monitor and interpret telemetry readings, including management of dysrhythmias.
  • Initiate and maintain IV access and administer medications as prescribed.
  • Assist in patient assessments and ongoing evaluation of care plans.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
  • Float to other Med/Surg or Telemetry areas as required, including COVID care units.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with 1 year in Med/Surg.
  • Must have prior travel nursing experience, with at least 2 successful contracts.
  • Local candidates are welcomed.
  • Current BCLS certification is required; ACLS and NIH certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to start IVs and interpret telemetry are essential skills.

Shift Details

  • 12-hour night shifts, working every other weekend.
  • Unit staffing ratios of 1:6.
  • Scheduled shifts may require make-up for any cancellations, particularly on weekends.

Unit Information

  • The unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
  • Daily census is approximately 42 patients.
  • Nurses will receive specific training for EMU responsibilities as needed.

Additional Details

  • Orientation for new hires is scheduled for 36 hours.
  • Scrubs are navy blue in color.
  • All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting.
  • Block scheduling may not always be guaranteed.
