The unit involves the following systems: Respiratory, Endocrine, Cardiac, Immune/Infectious Disease, and Renal. Nurses will provide care for patients with diverse diagnoses. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell, and cystic fibrosis. Responsibilities may include the management of chest tubes, heparin protocols, interpretation of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions, IV insulin protocols, telemetry, and wound care. Nurses will also provide care for patients requiring PCA. Candidates must adhere to the float policy and work every other weekend. Two out of three winter holidays must be worked. Previous charge experience is preferred. Travel experience is required. The patient ratio on nights is approximately 5 patients per nurse. Nurses will have interdisciplinary support available, including physical therapy and respiratory services. Special equipment available includes lift equipment, HOVER mats, PCA pumps, and wound vacs.
