Description:
Clinical review and auto offer for a 27-bed General Medicine Unit.
Clinicians on this unit enjoy caring for a variety of disease processes that involve the following systems: Respiratory, Endocrine, Cardiac, Immune/Infectious Disease, and Renal.
The unit requires staff to work nights and offers either 36 or 48 hours.
Every other weekend is required, and block scheduling cannot be accommodated.
Time off cannot be approved around Labor Day.
Must adhere to float policy within the scope of practice.
Candidate must have experience managing patients on telemetry.
Patient ratios are 5:1 during nights and weekends.
Daily census averages around 25 patients.
The patient age groups include adults and geriatrics.
Among the patient diagnoses are respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell disease, and cystic fibrosis.
Interdisciplinary support includes IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, and Transportation.
Special procedures include nurse-driven Heparin infusions and insulin drips via Glucomander.
Knowledge and skills required include management of dysrhythmias, tracheostomy care, wound care, and telemetry management.
Experience with chest tubes, PCA pumps, use of bladder scanners, and wound vacs is also essential.
