Description:
This is a clinical position in a 26-bed acute care unit.
The patient population primarily consists of post-surgical and trauma patients.
Approximately 90% of the patients are post-surgical, with the remaining 10% having medical diagnoses.
All patient rooms are equipped for cardiac monitoring, capnography, and continuous pulse oximetry.
Staffing includes three nursing assistants or patient care technicians for a full unit.
Interdisciplinary support is provided by various teams, including IV teams, respiratory services, and social services.
The unit offers a variety of specialized services including trauma, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, ENT, and plastic surgery.
Patients are monitored with a patient-nurse ratio typically ranging from 1:4 to occasionally 1:5.
The unit is supported with a free-float charge registered nurse.
IV and phlebotomy expertise is not required, as these services are provided by dedicated teams.
Wound care support is available seven days a week.
The position requires working every other weekend and every other holiday.
Two out of three winter holidays must be worked.
Time off requests must be submitted prior to the start of the assignment.
Candidates must float within their scope of practice as needed.
Education:
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
This role involves direct patient care in a fast-paced environment.
